From Numbers to Cheer
Hello again,
Today was one of those days that just made my heart full. The day started off on such a beautiful note with one of the most uplifting and spirit-filled devotions. It really set the tone for the rest of the day and reminded me of how blessed I am to be on this journey. After devotion, we moved into our math lesson, where we taught our Grade 4 students about multiplication of decimals. I was so excited to dive into this topic because we had planned a very interactive lesson. We started with a simple discussion to activate their prior knowledge and help them connect decimals to real life.
To build on that, we watched a short YouTube video that broke the concept down step-by-step. The kids were really engaged, and I could tell they were soaking it in. Then came the highlight of the lesson, our “Decimal War” card game. The students were placed in groups, and they practiced multiplying decimals using playing cards. It was fun, competitive, and educational all in one.
Later on, each group explained how they got their answers, walked through their steps, and even compared their products with other groups. We wrapped it all up with a real-world scenario where students helped “Liam” figure out how much money he needed to buy fabric for a tablecloth.
Overall, the lesson went well, but we have come to realize that many of our students are still struggling with their times tables, which made multiplying decimals much more difficult. It’s something we’ll definitely have to revisit and reinforce in the coming days. Still, we pushed through, and I’m proud of how much effort they gave.
Now for the part I’m really excited to share cheerleading practice! My peer and I have been working hard with our students to prepare a cheerleading routine for the upcoming sports day. I’ll be honest it hasn’t been easy. The students were very distracted in previous sessions and had trouble picking up the steps. Finding the right rhythm and focus was a real challenge.
But today wow! Something shifted. The energy was focused, the cooperation was on point, and the routine came together beautifully. Everyone participated, the transitions were smooth, and the students were so proud of themselves. I was truly overjoyed with their performance and growth. Watching them improve with each practice session is such a rewarding experience.
Days like this remind me why I love teaching not just for the academic wins, but for the moments of teamwork, perseverance, and joy that come when students shine in different ways.
